Woodworking has been popular in Tokushima Prefecture since the Edo period. In 1966, Otsuka Kagu Kogyo Co., Ltd. was established as a group industry of a major pharmaceutical company. Three years later, Miyazaki Chair Factory was established to subcontract Otsuka Kagu Kogyo Co. to manufacture chairs.
Miyazaki Chair Factory is currently attracting national attention for the quality of its designs and the reliability of its manufacturing technology. This presentation reports on a survey conducted at Miyazaki Chair Factory and examines the current state of the furniture manufacturer.
