The family of the author’s mother is the “Oikawa family”, a 400 year-old farm family in Mizusawa Anetai town, Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture. The Oikawa family has worshipped ”Saburo-kitsune”, the god of good harvest, for generations, but changes in lifestyles have put the continuation of this tradition in jeopardy. As a result,the threads of local ties that have connected the people through Saburo-kitsune are being dissolved.This paper reviews the “activities to bring people together” that have been practiced in the field of Anetai town, and discusses the possibility of a new community that transcends social norms and ties and is connected by local kinship.
