Abstract

This paper focuses on the 'Light as a Creative Medium' exhibition in 1965 organized by György Kepes and argues that his efforts to fuse science and art were an example of the Cultural Cold War in the United States. First, we examine American Information strategy in the 1960s from the political context. We illustrate the design works by Will Burtin and 'Space Exhibition' in 1960 supported by USIA in Japan. Second, the process of the 'Light as a Creative Medium' exhibition will be analyzed from the papers by Kepes. Third, his concept and contents of the exhibition will be discussed.
