Abstract

Typeface is an important component in graphic design and multilingual typography. It's increasingly essential for design across different language systems. In this research, we aimed to propose an effective typeface selection approach for exploring the juxtaposition of different languages. We found that some impressions and preferences differ between Japanese and Chinese typefaces. Visual attributes that influence the impression of Chinese include the writing style and the ornamentation of brush strokes. In the future, we would like to further investigate how to define and measure these visual attributes.
