Abstract

Toward the development of STEAM teaching materials that integrate traditional crafts and digital fabrication, we conducted a hands-on learning experience using Hakata hariko, a traditional craft in Fukuoka, as the subject matter. Specifically, students from a technical high school were invited to create Halloween masks using face data scanned with a 3D scanner. After the experiential learning, a questionnaire based on the ARCS model was administered to the participating students, which yielded high scores in the categories of attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. These results indicate that the experiential learning was appropriate in terms of learner motivation.
