Abstract

This study explores how designers and engineers differ in their use of ChatGPT, focusing on their perceptions of ChatGPT and the language differences in their creative processes. Analysis of conversation logs with ChatGPT revealed that designers take an exploratory, storytelling approach and view ChatGPT as a collaborator, while engineers take a goal-oriented approach and see ChatGPT as a problem-solving advisor. These differences likely stem from designers using natural language and engineers using machine language. The author reflects on the potential for ChatGPT to become a co-practitioner in learning.
