Production System of Traditional Shubi in the Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China

Abstract

In the context of rapid economic growth, urban expansion, and the introduction of modern machinery, traditional Shubi craftsmanship, native to Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, faces the threat of extinction. This study aims to examine the various components and production system of traditional Shubi through field investigation. It has revealed a collaborative production framework that has been operational for roughly a century, involving a partnership between local villages and Shubi shops. Within this framework, craftsman contribute their wisdom and skills, establishing a positive and stable cooperative relationship.
