Abstract
This study investigates the use of generative AI for idea sketching, comparing it with hand-drawing. Graduate students used generative AI (Recraft) to create sketches, and the differences, benefits, and challenges were analyzed. Results show that while generative AI excels in speed and visual appeal, it requires trial and error to match the user’s intent. Hand-drawing, however, stimulates creativity and was found to be more effective for idea generation. The study suggests that a hybrid approach, combining both methods, could be the most effective for idea sketching.
