Abstract
When typefaces are produced for the main text, “ordinary” forms are sometimes aimed for. How has this sense of normality evolved over time? The following four categories are used to examine the evolution of this sense: “copying style,” “technolinguistics,” “sociolinguistics,” and “de facto standards.” The letterforms has gradually been standardized from a physical norm toward reproducibility. We will examine the foundation for future awareness and specifications amidst the various influences of technological and social requirements.
