Abstract

A workshop “Wakuwaku Mapping of Town Walking” was conducted to share the impressions of visitors to the streets by visualizing their impressions. The impressions of the streets were recorded on sticky notes, which were then used to create a color image map and an illustration map of the impressions of the streets. By recording comments on transparent color sticky notes and pasting them on top of each other, we were able to intuitively grasp the distribution of impressions based on density changes caused by color mixing. In addition, by visualizing the participants’ impressions and matters of concern based on the color image map by drawing illustrations along with the text, we were able to share and evaluate the impressions of the streets and the information behind the impressions. The process of creating color image maps and illustration maps proved to be a powerful tool for us to grasp the overall impression of a city walk and to visualize that impression with textual expression.
