Abstract

This study introduces the concept of "Boundary Media" as a theoretical framework that integrates and extends prior work on boundary objects and epistemic objects in innovation contexts. By analyzing the literature, we identify five key functions of Boundary Media: sensemaking, knowledge transformation, collaboration promotion, creative stimulation, and organizational memory. Our framework particularly addresses the challenges of the fuzzy front end stage of innovation, where uncertainty and ambiguity are high. The study contributes to innovation management by proposing design principles for effective knowledge mediation across professional boundaries and temporal stages of innovation projects.
