Abstract

In modern urban life, objects are often seen as controllable entities under rational systems. In this paper, I explore methods for perceiving spirituality in objects, inspired by the Ainu worldview, where all things possess souls and are called “kamuy.” An original capsule toy device was created to prompt spoken interaction. Findings suggest that the rediscovery of “spirituality” arises not through individual acts, but within social contexts. Incorporating narrative into the act of returning and refilling capsules, the study examines how to design devices that reveal spirituality in objects.
