Development of the Electric Assist "Quadra Cycle" for Tourists Visiting Shonan

Abstract

This paper describes the development of a new electric-assisted 4-wheel bicycle in Shonan based on the test-ride evaluation of previously developed bicycles. Due to increasing foreign tourists, overtourism has strained local transportation. Since 2021, Shonan Institute of Technology has developed SQC-01 and SQC-02. Based on these studies, SQC-03 was designed in 2023 for day-trip tourists, focusing on lightness and usability. While further evaluation is necessary, this research suggests its potential as a secondary transport solution.
