Exploring a New Model for Community Expansion and Fundraising in Citizen-led Regional Activities

Abstract

This study proposes "Digital Hanakake" as a new fundraising model for community activities. By adapting the traditional concept of Hanakake to a digital environment, this model utilizes online spreadsheets and social media to visualize supporters' contributions and engage a broader community both within and beyond the region. In small communities and organizations, crowdfunding often faces challenges such as low recognition and difficulties in building trust. Digital Hanakake serves as an effective alternative, allowing contributors to play an active role in the project rather than simply providing financial support. This approach fosters community building and revitalization. Through case studies of the Yoga Summer Festival and the Susami Art Camp, this research examines the effectiveness of Digital Hanakake and explores its potential as a method for utilizing regional resources.
