Abstract

We conducted a psychological experiment to examine the impressions of transition animations and their effects on scene cognition. We assessed transition impression and visual accessibility and memory retention of scenes before and after the transition. Results showed that impact impression of transition decreased correct recognition rates for both pre- and post-transition scenes, and the wipe-type transition decreased correct recognition rates of pre-transition scenes. These findings suggest that impactful transitions may disrupt prior scene retention and slow temporal attention shifts to the following scene, while wipe-type transition could interfere with cognition for pre-transition scene information.
