A study on the Musical Representation of cities using a Sound Algorithm

Abstract

his study explores the connection between architecture and music, using building data to generate musical representations of urban space. A scale generation algorithm is developed based on façade color and height, mapping urban features into musical notation. Two Tokyo districts, Shinonome (high-rise, sparse) and Tateishi (low-rise, dense), were analyzed, revealing distinct musical characteristics. By transforming cities into sound, this approach offers a new way to perceive and share urban environments through both sight and hearing.
