Abstract

Modern society imposes excessive cognitive loads, making "passive rest" essential. This study developed a split-flap display prototype using 1/f fluctuations to induce a "bo-tto" (absent-minded) state without conscious effort. Experiments comparing a fluctuating low-speed pattern (A) with a constant high-speed pattern (B) revealed that Pattern A significantly enhanced parasympathetic recovery (HRV) and subjective relaxation. This research redefines analog mechanisms as a medium for restorative rest, providing new design guidelines for mental well-being in information-saturated environments.
