Abstract

This study explores the design of sustainable local systems in remote mountainous communities through a co-creative design approach, focusing on Kitayama Village, Wakayama. Field research, stakeholder interviews, and participatory workshops were conducted to identify local needs and latent resources. Based on these insights, a residency-based program utilizing raft timber waste and local wood resources was proposed. The project aims to foster long-term engagement, expand relational populations, and support community sustainability. Implementation is planned for 2026 to evaluate its practical impact.
