Design Literacy in Photographic Activities Involving Bodily Experience

A Collaborative Program between Musashino Art University and Central Academy of Fine Arts

Abstract

Contemporary society faces uncertainty and complexity due to rapidly evolving technologies and visually saturated environments. Amidst design education's shift from "making things" to "making meaning," this study explores bodily photography practices. Looking at a collaborative workshop between Musashino Art University and Centra Academy of Fine Arts, we examine how participants engage with the camera apparatus. Ultimately, findings reveal that immersing oneself in shooting and consciously reorganizing photographs functions as a practice of design literacy and can be understood as urban editing.
