Abstract

Proposed methodologies for the formulation of development strategy for artisan craft promotion needs careful verification as to whether they are applicable and effective in the given socio-economic environment. The central element to be considered throughout this paper is integration of traditional values and its practical application in its formulation. The paper firstly examines the required policies and expediency of a development master plan. Then, it investigates various functions of support institutions including a Traditional Craft Village. At the craft producers' level, it analyses a cluster development concept; proactive use of embedded Business Development Services (BDS) offered by international retailers and NGOs; and market development concept with market segmentation and establishment of a brand name. The paper sites, as a concluding remark, the public and private sector joint initiatives for the development strategy implementation.
