Abstract
In design, design requirement is usually given verbally. Design thinking process can be said as the process of converging the verbal expression of design requirement into vision spatial image of form. Although to give design requirement is to give initial limitation to the thinking space, in an actual design work, the form expression as the result of thinking varies by designers depends on the difference of interpretation of the design requirement. In this research, under a design experiment in which subjects(design students) were given design assignment "Design a chair for children", the relation between structure of design concept(interpretation of design requirement) and corresponding vision spatial image of form were verified from the viewpoint of category structure theory of the cognitive semantics. Consequently, in the interpretation of design requirement, from the viewpoint of the structure of semantic space of design concept, it was shown that the originality of designed form by circumference interpretation was better than it from the central interpretation of the requirement.
