In this paper, we propose a color reproduction method based on multi-spectral ray-tracing algorithm for precise 3 dimensional computer graphics (3D CG) rendering interreflection on an object surface. The algorithm is developed based on multi-spectral reflection model and spectral distribution data for making digital mockup in a virtual space. Previous works on image rendering were limited to RGB color images. The RGB color image is device-dependent and valid for only the fixed conditions of illumination and viewing. The spectral distribution data need much more memory capacity than RGB data for rendering of objects. The rendering method with the data compression algorithm is implemented to Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) for improving resolution and performance. Finally, we render a realistic image of the object and present a comparison of 3D computer graphics (CG) and the original real object using the spectro-radiophotometer.
