Abstract

For a long time, the round brilliant cut design calculated by Tolkowsky is used as an ideal cut design for ornamental diamonds, which is a regular 58 facet round cut. Recently, a novel cut design of ornamental diamonds was proposed, which has a revolutionary technology to increase the quantity of reflected light of the diamonds. In the human perception, however, the factors of the beauty of ornamental diamonds sensed by a viewer consist of brilliancy and scintillation. In this research, we visualized the three dimensional patterns of many lights reflected from the diamond facets by using 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) soft. The simulation results made clear the brilliancy and scintillation of the diamonds and showed the difference of the new cut design from the conventional brilliant cut design.
