Abstract
This paper focuses on the life cultures embodied in wedding dress of Huayao minority which locates in Hunan province, China. We investigated the culture characteristics during the production, use and disposal of wedding dress by field survey. Finally, we got the following findings and conclusions: (1) The cooperatively making of wedding dress promotes the relationship of bride and bridegroom's family. The used patterns reflect people's attitude when facing severe environment and the will of pursuing happiness. (2) The hood, mirror or silver bell, etc. protect the bride from evil things thereby play the role as a border of evil and holy. The bride covers hair by two hoods to show her chaste and modest. (3) Married women wear their own wedding dress on other's wedding ceremony to express their best wishes. (4) Dressing up dead women with their wedding dress presents her family's dignity, symbolizes the everlasting marriage, and connects the real world and the other world.
