The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service teachers’ confidence in plant observation activities in the schoolyard and which supporting tools are appropriate for them.
A total of 39 pre-service elementary teachers, 25 pre-service secondary teachers, and 13 university science students received trial instructions to use an encyclopedia, wildflowers cards, and a website for a duration of 90 minutes to identify wildflowers. Their confidence in plant observation activities in the schoolyard was evaluated by a pre-test and a post-test.
Teachers and students did not have confidence during the pre-test. However, they gained confident after using the wildflowers cards. The website was convenient, but still needs improvement.
