Abstract
The goals of Japanese language teaching in the United States as part of the university curriculum needs to be reset in response to a changing socio-economic climate and societal expectations from foreign language studies. Three major areas are identified for discussion on how the Japanese Language Program at the University of Colorado may expand its roles and increase its contributions to higher education in order to continue its growth. A number of problems which may be encountered in pursuit of these goals will be addressed.
