Abstract
This paper explored the perception of basic school teachers on the use of improvised materials and suggested an alternative methodology for the teaching and learning of science with regards to the use of ICT. To find out the teachers’ needs, demands, interests etc, the descriptive survey method was used in which questionnaires were administered to 20 teachers. The results showed that some basic school teachers still explained some scientific concepts verbally in the absence of improvised materials and 5% of them reported using the internet as a resource material for preparing for lessons. With the integration of ICT through the use of digital contents, the teaching and learning of science could be improved.
