Abstract
This research aimed at exploring science teachers’ subject specific beliefs in Denmark and Japan. Phenomenological approach has been taken in order to analyse semi-structured interview data from 6 in-service science teachers at lower middle school from each Denmark and Japan. As a result, Danish teachers showed the importance of interest and curiosity as a commonality while Japanese teachers showed more focus on helping students’ understandings. It showed different subject specific beliefs reflected in their practices.
