Abstract
Purpose : In order to provide basic data on the role of lysine in humans classified as limiting amino acid, we investigated the relationship between serum lysine concentration (lysine) and diet habits and various hematological findings.
Methods : One hundred and one young healthy volunteer college students (21±2 years, male : female ; 20 : 81) were observed in a cross-sectional study. We investigated the correlation between the lysine value (HPLC method) and lifestyle survey questionnaire, nutritional status, and blood indicators of hematopoiesis.
Results : Lysine, in the medium term was reduced due to insufficient intake of legumes. In the short term, a weak correlation to the ingestion of food containing a lot of protein often food and saturated fatty acids was observed (P<0.05). Positive correlations were observed between the lysine concentration and serum albumin, blood glucose, hemoglobin concentration, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, and arginine. Lysine concentration was higher in men (P<0.05).
Conclusion : In the results of this study, there was a relationship between lysine and diet habits. Lysine was suggested to be associated with the blood indicator of nutritional status and hematopoiesis.
