Abstract
Anastomotic leakage and delayed gastric emptying are relatively frequent postoperative complications of gastric cancer. The double elementary diet tube(W‐ED®tube)has a double‐lumen structure where one lumen is for nutrition and the other is for gastric decompression. In this study, we used the W‐ED®tube in 4 patients to manage postoperative complications. Case 1:A 73‐year‐old man developed anastomotic leakage after total gastrectomy, and a W‐ED®tube was inserted on postoperative day 10 and kept in place for 23 days. Case 2:An 84‐year‐old man developed anastomotic leakage after total gastrectomy, and a W‐ED®tube was inserted on postoperative day 11 and kept in place for 28 days. Case 3:An 85‐year‐old man developed delayed gastric emptying after distal gastrectomy, and a W‐ED®tube was inserted on postoperative day 16 and kept in place for 26 days. Case 4:A 75‐year‐old man developed delayed gastric emptying after distal gastrectomy, and a W‐ED®tube was inserted on postoperative day 29 and kept in place for 28 days. After removing the W‐ED®tube, all patients were able to resume oral intake and were discharged. The W‐ED®tube is easy to use and may be useful for postoperative complications of gastric cancer.
