Abstract
Most of the skin barriers on the market at present often cause skin troubles. We developed a skin barrier prototype which consists of only karaya gum and citrus pectin as hydrophilic polymer,and doesn't contain sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. We tested it with five ostomates in two facilities continuously from stoma formation till three years and one month later,in order to develop a new skin barrier with excellent skin protecting properties. We also compared the changes in the peeling strength of this skin barrier and the other products on the market by applying them to the skin of 14 healthy males continuously for one month. The result suggest that the newly designed skin barrier has excellent skin protecting properties.
