Abstract
We have been taking care of ostomates and teaching the stoma care for 9 years. According to the analysis of 9 year experience in stoma clinic, the needs of the patients have changed recently. The feature of the ostomates, the new needs, and the role of stoma clinic were discussed. Though the average age of the patients who underwent in the last 3 years has advanced,we have not experienced the stoma with severe trouble. The reason why there are not so many stomas with trouble is that the surgeons make stomas skillfully and the stoma clinic nurses make effort to teach ostomates stoma care very heartily. And recent ostomates tend to visit stoma clinic only within 3 months after operation to establish their selfcare. So the new needs of ostomates is to be observed for long period after operation. And our role is to cooperate the district-health-care network such as home visiting nurses, day care service for increasing number of aged ostomates.
