Morphology Control of Carbon Nanotubes using Alcohol Chemical Vapor Deposition

Abstract

We have investigated selective growth of carbon nanotubes, such as single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs), multi-walled nanotubes (MWNTs) and carbon nanocoils, using alcohol CVD through a combination of the metal catalysts and growth temperature. In the case of Fe and Co catalysts, SWNTs were grown at 900^oC, and MWNTs at 700^oC. Using a Ni catalyst, on the other hand, carbon nanocoils with a variety of helical structures were grown at 900^oC. We believe that these findings will contribute to progress in the applications of carbon nanotubes to electronic devices.
