Abstract
One of important research issues of Semantic Web is formalization of relationships among various semantic representation schemes. This field is called “ontology” although it can be regarded as a part of more traditional knowledge representation research. In fact, it is sometimes observed that problems discussed in knowledge representation community in 1960's and 1970's reappear in ontology community these days. Study of history is necessary not to re-invent wheels. For this purpose in mind, this article overviews the history of knowledge representation research, which includes research on reasoning as its essential part.
