Abstract

Floating rice varieties from several Asian countries were classified by acid phosphatase and peroxidase zymograms. Of four genotypes expected, two genotypes, (Acp1-4, Px24c) and (Acp1-4, Px20), were observed in materials from Burma, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. Above two and the other genotype (Acp19, Px20) were observed in India. Besides the three types, the fourth genotype (Acp19, Px24c) was observed in Bangladesh.
From the above finding together with the results of grain shape character, it was concluded that floating rice varieties have a wide genetic variation and can be classified into some varietal groups probably corresponded to Indica, Japonica and others.
