Abstract
The kinetics of hydrolysis of giant ipil-ipil wood was studied in dilute sulfuric acid of different concentrations, C (%) at various temperatures, T (K) . The first-oder rate constants, kA, kB and kC were obtained for the pentosan fraction easy to hydrolyze, the pentosan fraction difficult to hydrolyze and the cellulose fraction, respectively.
kA=1.94×1013⋅C1.20⋅exp (-113000/ (RT) )
within the range of C=0.5-2.1% and T=393-413 K
kB=2.82×109⋅C1.32⋅exp (-91600/ (RT) )
within the range of C=0.5 -2.1% and T=393-413 K
kC=6.28×1018⋅C1.17⋅exp (-175000/ (RT) )
within the range of C=0.4-1.6% and T=443-463 K
where R is the gas constant (J⋅mol-1⋅K-1) .
Xylose and glucose yields calculated by use of these values were in good agreement with those recorded in the experiment.
These rate constants are comparable to those of another hardwood which have been studied on dilute acid saccharification.
