In response to the traffic fatal accident in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture in 2012, the three ministries informed prefectural governors and other relevant agencies to cooperate with each other to conduct safety inspections and ensure the safety of school routes in their jurisdictions, and joint inspections were conducted in cities, wards, towns, and villages nationwide. Based on the results of the joint inspections, the government recommended that the PDCA cycle based on the School Road Traffic Safety Program be continued, as this would lead to improved safety on school routes. Although the program is thought to help prevent accidents from occurring in the first place, the government again requested the implementation of joint inspections in response to a fatal traffic accident in Yachimata city, Chiba Prefecture, in 2021. In this study, we investigated the involvement of prefectures and the joint inspections and programs implemented by cities, wards, towns, and villages, based on a website survey and questionnaire survey, in response to the government's request for joint inspections to be conducted by prefectures and other entities.
