The accident in Yachimata City, Chiba Prefecture, in June 2021 has once again made us aware of the need for countermeasures against accidents involving elementary school students on their way to and from school. While the number of school crossing bridges installed along school routes is increasing, it is expected that the number of cases where pedestrian crossings are designated as school routes will increase in the future. In this study, we investigated the crossing behavior of elementary school students at pedestrian crossings with traffic signals. As a result, it was found that there were crosswalks where children crossed in a manner that could cross with motor vehicles even when adults did not cross in a manner that could cross with motor vehicles. The results also suggest that factors other than the road environment, such as the priority of group behavior, lack of attention, and adult violations, may be influencing this behavior.
