A Fundamental Study on Detour Promotion during Long-term Expressway Closure for Major Expressway Renewal

Abstract

This study focuses on the long-term closure of Chugoku Expressway due to its major renewal project. It attempts to analyze the willingness to detour to the Shin-Meishin Expressway, the recommended detour route, and to evaluate factors affecting route choice on the expressway. A discriminant analysis using discrete variables was conducted to analyze the characteristics of drivers who were willing in detouring to the Shin-Meishin Expressway. In the evaluation of route selection factors, weights of the route evaluation criteria for each subject were calculated using AHP, and a cluster analysis was conducted to categorize the weights of the route evaluation criteria. In addition, by showing the relationship between the variables which influence the willingness in detouring to Shin-Meishin Expressway and the cluster analysis of the weights of the evaluation criteria for route choice, a method to expect the effectiveness of measures for drivers who need detouring is proposed in the paper.
