Abstract
Phnom Penh Traffic Control Center (TCC), established in Dec. 2018, connects total 196 detectors for collecting traffic data and 109 local controllers for signal timing adjustment. Phnom Penh City Bus Authority (CBA) manages total 181 public buses, which carry on-board unit for probe data collection. Generally, when two or more types of data were integrated, additional value, derived from such integration, most likely exceeds over two or three times from expectation. For example, TCC collects traffic volume, but travel time data is not collected. Travel time data can be used to find bottleneck points that are not only signalized but also non-signalized intersections, which helps us to consider counter measures. This paper shows verification work for possibility of the optimization of the Phnom Penh traffic control system by probe data of Phnom Penh City Bus, which was carried out in “The project for improvement of public bus operation in Phnom Penh” supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
