Abstract
It has been detected that 2-Imino-4⋅6-dimethyl-hexahydro-s-triazine inhibited the cytopathic effect of polio virus in a cell culture screening system.
This compound had not virucidal activity in vitro.
When the compound was administered at the latent period, the viral growth and the plaque formation of polio virus in cell cultures were inhibited. This inhibitory effect was reversible, because the effect was reduced by removal of the compound from medium.
The compound did not inhibit the cytopathic effects or viral growth of vaccinia virus, adeno virus, Japanese B encephalitis virus, Western equine encephalomyelitis virus and influenza virus in tissue cultures.
As the results of the examination on the relation with chemical structure, the activity was found in guanidine moiety.
