Abstract
 This study was to clarify investigated attempting to show clearly the component elements for the accomplishment process of blocking action in volleyball, and with focus on serve phase, rally phase and attack tempos.  Blocking is supposed to be a difficult skill. And the study of evaluating its effects has already been advanced, and we would like to present the component elements of assessment of blocking action under the situation itself today. The subjects of this study were 2007/8 Japanese men’s top league club in V Premier League. The number of the sample was 4 matches, 14 sets and 606 plays. The data were processed using statistic methods such as t-test. The results were summarized as followings: 1. Serve phase (1)1st tempo attacking…“Anticipating for setting in attacking area” and “Height of blocking”. (2)2nd tempo attacking…“Ready Posture”, “Anticipating for setting in attacking area” and “Height of blocking”. (3)3rd tempo attacking…“Ready Posture” and “Height of blocking”. 2. Rally phase (4)1st tempo attacking…“Anticipating for setting in attacking area” and “Height of blocking”. (5) 2nd tempo attacking…“The number of blockers” and “Height of blocking”. (6) 3rd tempo attacking…None.
