It is very difficult to make pulps by sulfite process from Karamatsu heartwood, and the pulps obtained from Karamatsu are colored yellow or green.
Then the author thought that some fiavone analogue compounds existed in the woods, extracted with methanol, and obtained a crystalline substance from the extracts.
From the properties of the crystalline, it was convinced that this material was the same as "taxiforin " which had been isolated from Douglas fir by J . C. Pew.
Todomatsu chips were cooked with sulfite liquor which added taxiforin. The difficulty of pulping and yellow coloration of pulps were observed. The author considered these mechanisms.
