Abstract
Gene therapy using hybrid type artificial skin, a kind of artificial skin including cells, has many advantages in control of gene expression and/or excision of introduced genes. In order to develop an useful method of gene therapy for diabetes, we introduced insulin genes into keratinocytes and fibroblasts derived from skin. And then we have reconstructed proinsulin-producing hybrid type artificial skin from transfected skin cells and collagen. The hybrid type artificial skin should be very useful for continuous injecion of proinsulin into the body.
