An analysis of the twist shrinkage of two-fold staple yarn has shown that calculated and observed twist shrinkages agree well. Highlights of the experimental data obtained:
1) Twist shrinkage k1; of two-fold staple yarn is obtainable by ply twist helix angle β, bottom twist angle θR; and final twist angle θR;' k1; =1-{(1-k')/(1-k)}cosβ and k'=1+(logcosθR; ')cosθR; '/(1-cosθR; ') =twist shrinkage of bottom twist yarn
2) θR; ' is obtainable by θR;, β, ply twist U1; and bottom twist u1;
q(θR; ')={1-(U1; /u1; )cos2β}q(θR;) and q(θ)=tanθ{-(logcosθ)cosθ/(1-cosθ)}1/2
3) Ply twist helix angle β is obtainable by ply twist multiplier K1; K1; =tanβcos1/2β/C and C=0.0758δ√<v>; δ=shape factor v=specific volume of yarn
