Abstract

A theory of the biaxial tensile properies of warp knitted fabrics was developed in previous paper. The biaxial tensile properties of single tricot stitches with a close lap is calculable if the mechanical properties of yarn and fabric structures are given.
In this paper, the biaxial tensile properties of some actual fabrics have been calculated by using the theoretical formula presented in previous paper. The properties have also been measured by using a biaxial tensile tester for the purpose of comparing with the theoretical values.
A good agreement has been obtained between theoretical curves of the biaxial load-extension relation and the measured curves over the whole range from the initial tensile region to the ultimate region.
It is concluded that the biaxial tensile properties of single tricot fabrics are calculable with good accuracy if the tensile properties of yarn and the structure constants of knitted fabric are given.
