Compressive Deformation Theory of Carpets

Abstract

To enable the compressive deformation properties of some kinds of carpets to be calculated, their compressive mechanism has been analyzed.
With the aid of some hypotheses presented, the theoretical equations have been derived on the basis of the thin rod theory on elastica.
The experimental curves on flocked or tufted carpet have been compared with the theoretical ones with fairly good agreement, thus verifying that the above hypotheses and theoretical equations are almost right.
