With the aid of matrices the author soughts to obtain face weave, backing weave and ties from a double cloth design in which only one kind of color was used.
Take a matrix that consists of a which indicates the face thread and o which indicates the backing thread. Subtract from the matrix face and backing yarn arrangement. Then the matrix made by combining the rows and columns which consist of elements -a and o represents face wave. -a in that matrix is weft up mark and o warp up mark.
The mataix made by combining the rows and columns which consist of elements _??_ and o represents the backing weave. a in that matrix is warp-up mark and o weft-up mark.
If the elements in which backing warp and face weft intersect are o, these elements represent the backing warp ties. If the intersection of face warp and backing weft is -a, then those elements represent the backing weft ties.
