The authors have studied experimentally the bearings which the relative surface speed and the weight of cotton accumulating on the carding surface have on the number of neps and fiber orientation.
Results:
(1) Fiber orientation in card webs is found to be deteriorated by the interaction between the cylinder and doffer, or between the doffer and doffer comb.
(2) Fiber orientation in card slivers improves with an increase in calender draft.
(3) With an increase in the weight of cotton depositing on the cylinder, or with an increase in the speed of the taker-in roller or flat, fiber orientation on the cylinder improves and neps in the card webs increase in number.
