Abstract
Proximity of workplaces to dwelling places as well as establishment of town-cores (town-nodes) along railway network makes residential suburbs sustainable. The central district of new towns and the downtowns of old satellite cities have the potential to become town-nodes. For obtaining work-life balance, the function of appropriate scale commerce, business, culture and welfare should be supplied in these cores. The area management of residential suburbs must be a thing including this perspective.
